Virupa: In the Sakya Tradition the mahasiddha associated with the Lamdre system of practice, Virupa, has six principal forms that relate chronologically to his life story. He actually has several more forms described in early liturgies and guruyoga practices but during the time of Ngorchen Kunga Zangpo (1382-1456) six forms were codified and promoted. The image of the painting on the left depicts the form that was used to describe the stopping of the Ganges river after Virupa left Nalanda Monastery. --- Jeff Watt, 2010
