"Ironing Ribbons" is a poetic dialogue on video presented in installation. Written and performed by Victoria poet Ariel O'Sullivan, "Ironing Ribbons" explores internalized shapes of thought and how they present themselves to us in our dreams. Here, the metaphor (a bearded man with large hands representing domestic captivity) is the message. The relationship between the internal world and the external world are brought face to face in a dramatization. |

Drive In - Film Driven Art by Rick Raxlen and Michael Lewis
The Community Arts Council (Sussex Building at corner of Douglas & Broughton) January 22 - February 5 Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. - 1:30 pm & 2:00 - 5:00 pm Opening Reception Saturday, January 23, 7:00 pm Popular films have often offered us the life of the artist in very colourful terms. Vincent Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec and Michaelangelo are examples of films inspired by artists and their art. Rick Raxlen and Michael Lewis are attempting to twist the cinematic image back on itself by using film as their source of inspiration. Rick Raxlen is a filmmaker who has exhibited at the Michael Batchelor Gallery and will be showing in a two-person show at the Campbell River Public Art Gallery in February. Michael Lewis has shown locally at Open Space and Rogue Art and recently had the honour of having his work chosen for the cover art of a detective novel. |
