Celebration of Emerging British Columbia Filmmakers

When Phil Borsos started making short films in British Columbia in the 1970's, funding was at a premium, there were only a handful of experienced crew members, and it had not yet been proven that shorts could lead to the making of feature films.  Thanks in part to the success of Borsos' shorts and his acclaimed feature The Grey Fox, today's emerging filmmakers have provincial and federal funds at their disposal and available crews with credits on U.S. and Canadian movies.
B.C. filmmakers have taken full advantage of their opportunities, creating some of the more memorable and acclaimed Canadian films of the last decade, including Magic in the Water, The Grocer's Wife, Live Bait, The Lotus Eaters, Rupert's Land, Double Happpiness and Kissed.  Several of the best B.C. has to offer will be presented at this year's Festival.  Included on the list of 70 Canadian shorts and features are the Vancouver International Film Festival award-winning short Keys to Kingdoms; and the features The Falling, which had its world premiere at last year's Toronto International Film Festival, and Zacharia Farted, which had its U.S. premiere at the prestigious American Film Institute (AFI) festival in Los Angeles last fall.  Ian Caddell
