Final
2001 update:
December
18, 2001. I'm just back from 2 weeks in Ireland.
Many thanks to Irish Refining for hosting me.
Thanks also to Port of Cork, Cork County Council
Fire Brigade and Irish Institute of Master
Mariners for support and the opportunity to
present classes.
Special
thanks to the guys at Irish Refining, Whitegate:
not only did the courses go well, but we had a
fabulous meal as a wrap-up - thank you.
Certificates in the mail.
Have
a Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year.
September
11, 2001.
Much
has been written on the events of September 11,
2001. I have friends in FDNY and others who
travelled to New York to help in the recovery.
The outpouring of support and fellowship is
heartening. At this time, I can do no more than
express my sympathy and support for those who
died trying to save others, who are still working
to recover from the devastation and who have the
resolve to make this a better world.
I
was attending a conference in Long Beach on
September 11 and was impressed by the peoples'
reaction to the news. As I walked back to my
hotel one night, the side streets were dark, but
every few houses people sat outside with lighted
candles and signs saying 'God Bless America.'
Children and teenagers at the intersections waved
flags and sang the hymn that has since become a
symbol for the US. Nowhere did I hear talk of
violence or revenge. Perhaps more good will come
from these evil acts than people realise.
Some
pictures from courses I did in Toronto are shown. The pictures
vary in quality as I attempt to balance download
time with resolution.
