Bio-Dynamic Agriculture

Bio-Dynamic farming is essentially a novel kind of fully organic mixed farming, involving the contribution of cosmic forces and stellar rhythms as well as the use of specific natural B-D preparations made on the farm. It endeavors to create a closed, fully-renewable, truly ecological production system, in which all the resources needed to maintain soil fertility and plant health originate from the farm itself, keeping any outside inputs at the bare minimum. To achieve this goal, the presence of animals in optimal number is essential -- the basis for soil fertility being composted manure -- and the feed for these animals needs to be produced on that same land, as well as all the crops for our own use and marketing. This ensures the production of the highest quality foods possible, easily detectable from their taste, which are then distributed to our CSA-shareholders.

My Bio-Dynamic background dates back to the mid 1930's, when my parents emigrated from Switzerland (the headquarter of Anthroposophy) to South- Western France, to start the very first B-D farm in that country. However, I also learned all about conventional farming (and later found out that it doesn't work in the long run) when I returned to Switzerland in the late 1940's to attend one of the leading agricultural colleges there.
