The Celtic Spiral

To the Celtic peoples the spiral stood as a symbol of spiritual growth and eternal life. Also, the number three was very important to them. Anything that was in triplicate was considered to be the equivalent to what could be called divine.
In these designs I wanted the lines to flow as to imply movement which leads to patterns. This is, I think, analogous with the process of life and learning throughout many lifetimes. As I was looking through my copy of the Book of Kells, I was mesmerized by the many examples of spiral patterns. I loved them so much I had to do one of my own.
