Home About Arbutus Wood

Arbutus Bark
Arbutus Wood, sometimes known as Madrona, is unique among native Westcoast North American hardwood species for the many superior qualities that make it "worth it's weight in gold" as a medium for fine wood sculpture and natural finishes.

Arbutus Tree
It's rich tones
and excellent working characteristics rival those of any tropical hardwood. A lengthy curing process of up to five years is required before Arbutus can be carved but the results make it well worth the wait. Arbutus lends itself well to a variety of surface textures and, with an oil-based finish, ages marvelously to a deep patina, continually improving over time. There is no finer hardwood to be had anywhere in Canada or the United States.
