Arbutus Wood,
sometimes known as Madrona, is unique among native Westcoast North American hardwood
species for the many superior qualities that make it "worth it's weight in gold"
as a medium for fine wood sculpture and natural finishes.

It's rich tones and excellent working characteristics rival those of any tropical
hardwood. A lengthy curing process of up to five years is required before Arbutus can be
carved but the results make it well worth the wait. Arbutus lends itself well to a variety
of surface textures and, with an oil-based finish, ages marvelously to a deep patina,
continually improving over time. There is no finer hardwood to be had anywhere in Canada
or the United States.
