The 2000/2001 Director of the BC Masters Cross Country Ski Association is Dirk Tempelman-Kluit. Dirk took up skiing in the 70's when he moved to Whitehorse, Yukon, for work--he is a geologist. In Whitehorse, he and a few other avid skiers, not so aptly named by their children "Old Farts," (they were in their 30's) raced around the ski trails every lunch hour, and raced formally every chance they got. Dirk continued skiing upon return to Vancouver, and persists still. He has participated at the World Masters in Canmore and Folgaria, Italy, and at the March 1999 Canadian Masters Championships in Vernon. He competes in the BC Loppet series every year, and occasionally in loppets farther afield. A dedicated member of the Nordic skiing community, with undying enthusiasm for the sport and its members, Dirk is in his second year as Director of the BC Masters Cross Country Ski Association.
