Very difficult to find hard ground in places. Lots of deep ruts made by the walkers and eroded by rain.
That afternoon we got to Horombo hut (12,200ft), after a fairly easy day.

The third day we climbed up an easy path onto the saddle.

The saddle was the only place I was able to give a lift to Chris and Doug. Easy for the bike but a tough walk approaching Kibo hut because of the altitude.
