Who is this band?
Beluga is one of Western Canada's most exciting live bands. They have been winning fans with their vibrant rock and roll shows, featuring the powerful vocals, wild stage antics of singer David Curran aka(Captain Canada), and the electric musicianship of guitarist Bill Podmore, drummer Mike Herle, bassist Sean O'Donohue and keyboardist Matt Wolfsohn. What do they sound like? Energized -Rock, described as "James Brown meets the Who in outer space", in 2005. Their supercharged sound blends a mix of rock, funk, and techno styles while maintaining a pop sensibility. Why should I care? Beluga has released their second album, "Robotica". Based on lead singer David Curran's Sci-Fi storyof the first robot given a human heart. Full of intensity, another batch great rock anthems such as"Supercharged", "Hyperdrive", and "Chewy's Gonna Get Some Action". They are planning totour and release two new video's, a live DVD, establish a major distribution deal, targeting radio stationsthroughout North America , Europe, and Asia.. Beluga has been performing throughout Western Canada, including Vancouver TD Canada Trust JazzFestival, Whistler (Boot Pub)&(Dusty's), Nelson(The Civic), Banff(Rose&Crown), Edmonton, CanadaDay Richmond Salmon Festival and the Stoltman Valley Music Festival. Several shows at Vancouver'sArts Club Backstage Lounge where Beluga won the Survivor of the Bands competition in Oct. 2000,industry professionals chose Beluga over 8 other worthy bands. Successful shows were also performedat Vancouver's Fairview Pub, Richard's on Richard's,The Media Club, the Silvertone, the Sidedoor, thePurple Onion, Marine Club, UBC, SFU and UVIC , where the crowds were left chanting the anthemtribute, "What's So Evil" (About Evel Knievel). About the Video:" If Golf Was Like the Universe" This legendary and hilarious video was played on Muchmusic's "The Wedge" and featured on"Formage 2000" Beluga's history: Beluga's founding members, singer David Curran and guitarist Bill Podmore alongwith drummer Mike Herle and bassist Darrin Parris, met in their previous band "Water," and haveperformed at such prestigious venues as Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom, 86 Street Music Hall,and the TownPump, where they shared stages with such bands as "54-40", "Fishbone", and New York's "Blues Traveller". Beluga was born in 1998. With original songs building up the band startedwriting and recording new material as well as jamming with DJ's and computers. In late 1999 Belugalaid down bed tracks at Beatty Lane Studios with Shael Wrinch acting as co-producer and engineerand completed their debut C.D. "Sonar Baby"..
