THE TREASURY OF CELTIC KNOTS
ORDER NOW Printed on fine-quality paper, The Treasury of Celtic Knots, stitch-bound in sections that lie flat.
The pioneering work of John Romilly Allen over a century ago has inspired generations of Celtic artist, but until now his collection of authentic Celtic knots was buried in an obscure source, partly because when he first published them, he was unsure how they had been made. He later discovered they were derived from plaits, not from a handful of elementary knots, he abandoned his earlier work, and replaced the collection with a description of the evolution of knots from plaitwork (by the introduction of breaks in the pattern).
Romilly Allen's sucessor, George Bain subsequently introduced much of this lost work of Romilly Allen, and based his work on it, without understanding the dot grid method of their construction.
In this book, I present the complete collection by Romilly Allen, along with my own dot grid plan for each knot, completing the work of both Romilly Allen and George Bain on Celtic knot design. The result is an indispensable reference work for anyone interested in Celtic knot design.
In The Treasury of Celtic Knots I present all the knots identified by Romilly Allen, keeping the order of their original publication for reference, while redoing the old illustrations in two colours and a variety of treatments.
