This design is based on an enamelled glass stud on the Ardagh chalice, which I love for its simplicity.
I took this design from the middle of k008: Ardagh Chalice (click on the sidebar to view the other Ardagh design), and recreated it with vector curves in a drawing program which treats the lines like bendable wires. As the original was constructed of metal wires forming a cage to contain a glass stud, this kind of computer drafting seems to me to capture the metallic quality of the original design. I liked the idea of transforming a late iron-age design with silicon-age technology.
