A MEEHAN TEE SHIRT DESIGN
K0006: SWORD OF LIGHT

Sword of Light

The sword of light occurs in many ancient Irish myths. It means the power of insight that flashes like a sunbeam cutting through cloud. It is shown here against a small round shield, called a targe in Scotland, the kind that was favoured by Celtic warriers.

The hilt of the sword is stylised in the form of a little human figure, a detail found on several early Celtic swords. The shield is decorated with a triple spiral, or Triskel, one of which is hidden by the sword blade.
